So AR Rahman is a Oscar winner. So is Resul Kutty. Its amazing. Last night was like Bollywood took over Hollywood. I'm pissed that Penelope Cruz won the best supporting actress. JAI HO!
1) Kid Cudi - Day 'N' Nite - I love thios song. And again Kanye is the producer here. I love the video. And guess what it fetaures my neighborhood Dive Bar SMOG CUTTER in the video. Its shot all around my old appartment. He walks in front of the video game arcade.
2) Ratatat & Spank Rock - Wildcat vs Backyard Betty This is one of the best mash Ups I have ever heart. Spank Rock's dirty words mashed with Ratatat's amazing WildCat.
3) Bonobo - Sugar Rhyme One of my fav DJs in the world. His music always relaxes me.
4) Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan My fav song from this astonishing film. I get goose bumps when this song is on, even now after 4 years.
5) Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days This is a song I will always love. It was the theme song of VICE CITY. And everytime i hear it on Radio, it transports me to my apartment in Bombay with Diggy & Hitsie.

1) Kid Cudi - Day 'N' Nite (4/10) Standard hip hop composition, song structure and sounds were very generic. Very ambient feel, the atmospheric arpeggio seemed misplaced in this genre, and did not move me on any level. Numbed and jaded with compositions like this that sometimes I have to shut the television at my gym from saturating my ears to literal contempt. Saving grace was the video, interesting concepts exhibited and realized. Liked the graphics and transformation. If LSD were made to trip on hip-hop would have tripped on some of the visuals otherwise thumbs down.
2) Ratatat & Spank Rock - Wildcat vs Backyard Betty (5/10) - A much more interesting use of sounds, liked the riffs that come in towards the later part of the track. Seemed to have run out of soul prematurely towards the end and died off. Gave me a feeling that the person who selected both these tracks was in an ambient space of mind which was confirmed immediately when I heard the next track in the list.
3) Bonobo - Sugar Rhyme (6/10) - Feeling generous and sumptuously satiated with this track. Bass has a interesting hook that is filled with the lead guitar and I was sold. The saxophone mixed in ambiently added to the flavour of the track, could have been mixed with a lower level and would have deserved a 6.5 then. Ended too quickly considering the musical ideas were just building in the track. Liked it nevertheless.
4) Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan (7/10) - Unfairly prejudiced by Cuban music and Big Band ensembles, considering I'm on a jazz trip these days. I always feel the aerophone instrument class are endowed with a lot of passion owing to the fact it takes a lot of effort and lung capacity to play them as opposed to string instruments which are more mechanical. Putting the mouth to use, if not in singing, gives them more power and passion in an ensemble. Always a big fan of Latin influenced music. Love this track too.
5) Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days (3/10) - Love the 80's but that did not weigh in favour of this track as the vocals seemed badly processed and delivered. Otherwise was very reminiscent.
